Asteriou Aikaterini

Katerina Asteriou was born in the city of Drama andshe lives and works in Prosotsani in the Municipality of Prosotsani. She first became involved in traditional dance at the age of 10 as a dancer of the Association of Grammoustian Vlachs Prosotsanis, since her half-origin is Grammoustiana.

In 1995, she began teaching Greek traditional dances to associations in her region.

Concurrently, she dealt with costumes, which she sewed for the needs of her dance groups. She has participated in dance seminars in order to learn the different traditions and customs from various regions of Greece.

Love and respect for indigenous inhabitants led her to her research work. Since 2000, she began recording data in the local villages of Drama [Petrousa, Kali Vrysi, Pyrgos, Monastiraki, Xiropotamos, Wallakas, Mikropoli, Pagoneri]. Her first official recording was issued in 2005, entitled “The songs of the inhabitants of Mikropolis” of the Municipality of Prosotsani. The second edition is the visual material entitled “In the paths of the tradition of Meneki”. The next and final edition, is “The Flavors of Meniki”.

In 2010, she presented at the Municipal Conservatory of Drama the musical recording of grammoustian Vlachs Prostanis entitled “Historical Route of the Vlachs of Eastern Macedonia”. She presented in Kryoneri and Sykies, Thessaloniki, invited by the local associations as part of their events, together with the dance group of Grammoustian Vlachs Prosotsanis, where she did her analysis of music and dance movement.

For three years, she was responsible for the planning and public relations of N. Drama for the European Organization for Strategic Planning – European Regional Development Network (EOSFEDEDF). She was responsible for organizing and presenting the events for Christmas (Pyrspoli), as well as the summer seven-day events in honor of ProfitisIlias of the Municipality of Prosotsani from 2007 to 2009.

Since 2015,she has been organizing a six-day cultural journey entitled “Epilinios Hellenic Cultural Trips and Seminars” with a different destination of Greece.
