Klironomia started as a dream of Toronto-based founder Lucy Grigoriadis, and became reality in 1993.
Since then, the signature 4-day Biennial Dance Conference has been a cornerstone of Hellenic Dance and Cultural Education for youth and adults from across North America, providing a venue for Greek folkloric culture to be studied, developed, and practiced. Klironomia sets the standard in Canada for the presentation and continuation of traditional and cultural inheritance.
The specific goals of the Conference are to:
- Stimulate awareness of the traditional Hellenic arts with a focus on dance, traditional costumes, music and instruments, taught by guest instructor and musicians from Greece who are specialists in specific regions of Greece
- Educate people of the Hellenic diaspora within a forum where information on the various vocabularies, regional dance styles and techniques are shared and exchanged
- Promote Greek cultural identity through the sharing of traditional dance styles by professional instructors who present their expertise of different regions of Greece
