Marieta Karchilaki

Marieta Karchilaki began her training in Cretan traditional dance at the Mavrokostas Dance Schools.  Under the mentorship of Thanasis Mavrokostas she developed a strong foundation in the technique, rhythm, and cultural heritage of Cretan dance from a young age.

 

Marieta holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Archaeology from the University of Crete, as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Rome, merging her academic expertise with her dedication to preserving and promoting Cretan culture.

 

She began her teaching career at the age of eighteen and currently instructs at the main Mavrokostas School in Heraklion as well as in several villages across Crete, fostering new generations of dancers.

 

Marieta has participated in numerous performances, video productions, and theatrical projects celebrating Cretan tradition, performing across Greece, including a notable appearance at the Herodeion (Odeon of Herodes Atticus) in Athens.

 

She has also taken part in international seminars and workshops, sharing the beauty, energy, and spirit of Cretan dance with audiences worldwide. At Klironomia 2026, she will be assisting with dances from Anogeia and focusing on female dance solos.
